Hung out with Megan and Natalie today. It was a lot of fun. I liked Natalie's friend, Anthony. I retreated into my shell pretty badly though. I get really shy around people I don't go to school with.
I'm not sure what photo is my Photo of the Day yet. I'm supposed to have one photo every day for 26 days and when I'm done I email them to Amanda Sosa Stone. It's good timing because the assignment is helping me get out when I would otherwise feel sort of hermitish. Yesterday the highlight of my day was definitely hanging out with Claire and today it was shooting at Anthony's place with Natalie and Megan. So if nothing else this assignment is allowing me a few hours of good times in a sea of stress.

Firefighter death benifits

On November 27, 2007 Firefighter John J. Curry was killed while he was training with the Volusia County Fire Services Firewalker Team, when a dead pine tree fell onto his back & killed him. Two days later the County of Volusia sent a letter to his widow Kristen informing her that hers & J.J’s only son Owens health benefits would be terminated unless she wanted to pay the COBRA price for benefits. Kristen did not even have a chance to put her husband to rest before she had to worry about Owens & her health benefits being terminated, which she should not even have had to worry about. But the County of Volusia found the loop hole in state law & chose to exploit it. Under current state law if a firefighter dies in a "training" incident their spouse & children will not be provided health insurance coverage unless the firefighters next of kin chooses to pay for them.
What can you do? Show support by contacting your locally elected state congressman & senators to co-sponsor Florida house bill #65.

A big thank you goes out to state rep. Darren Soto who has vowed to continue sponsoring this bill until it gets passed.

Eric-
Not too long ago you were telling me about your High School reunion and how basically people are the same person their whole life. I thought about that when my Mom was reading me this over the phone. She was going through her keepsake box of my childhood things and found a paper I wrote in the 5th grade. My opinions, likes, dislikes, and for a large part my grammar- is still the same. Just thought you'd get a kick out of it like I did.

Also, it gives away the reason I take afternoon classes now that I have a choice.

Still editing Jay's photos. Today I took a personal day and shot some film. Pretty much just did what I wanted all day. I didn't go to classes, but hung out on campus and spent my time with one of the professors going through my roller derby photos so he can help me get them ready for my portfolio.

It's back to work tomorrow. My To Do List didn't get any shorter.
I am writing a short story for Jon that I may not show to anyone but Rachel. I'm writing it later anyway. It's not that I want to forget about him, but I need a break from thinking about him. That hour I spent throwing myself into my work was the best therapy I've ever had... that and the box of kittens.

Last conversation. Yesterday afternoon:
Me:"Your hair is getting really long."
Jon: "Yeah."
Me: "It looks good, I'm not complaining."
Jon: *Grins* "I know."
Me: "So what are you up to?"
Jon: "I have to go to class in-" *Checks watch* "Oh. Three minutes ago. I thought I'd stop and say hi, but-"
*Both laugh*
Me: "Yeah see you later."

The conversation that never happened:
Me: "Your hair is getting really long."
Jon: "Yeah."
Me: "It looks good, I'm not complaining."
Jon: *Grins* "I know."
Me: "You look great in that shirt. I'm sorry I keep blowing you off for parties- I just ignore people when I get too busy..."
Jon: "It's okay- you'll come to the next one."
Me: "I still have your number. Do you think I could shoot you sometime? I don't have any photos of you and I've had this one in mind since last semester..."
Jon: "Yeah?"
Me: "Where you're the Big Bad Wolf. It'll be hot."
Jon: "Sounds hot."
Me: "Also I kind of have a little crush on you."
Jon: *Grins* "Yeah I know that too."
Me: "Want to skip out last class and smoke the rest of these cloves? I want to hear about what you've been shooting lately..."

I am skipping math tomorrow and calling it a "personal day". I am not skipping photo classes because I love my photo classes and I'm really looking forward to the class helping me edit down my roller derby stuff for my portfolio.

I still need to sell my scooter...

Does anyone need a nice dinning room table, a beautiful Queen bed frame in black iron that is also a canopy, or a nice wooden dresser? Maybe a black aquarium stand? I am trying to raise money to make up for my not having any and my roommate is leaving some furniture here- but I need to get rid of it in the next two days or it's going to the goodwill truck.
I'm probably gonna try craigslist.

On the way to the vet (Bubble cat needed his shots) there was a cat laying in the road- hit, but clearly alive. I ran to get a box and blanket then picked up the cat (who was really a kitten) and put him in the box. There was so much blood. I run him into the vet and the woman behind the desk looks at me like I just asked her to make me a sandwich when I told her I'd found a cat in the road that needed help.

So now here I am in a room- I am covered in blood and crying and this poor cat is in so much pain it's going through spasms. They are dragging their ass and refusing to do anything until I am done signing paperwork saying I'll pay for having the cat put down. They know it's not my cat. I sign everything because I'm a fool and because someone has to do something for this kitten because it's just panting and rolling in agony.

In the end they take a hundred bucks from me. I am never going to Vale-U-Vet again. They've lost my business even though I've been taking my dog to them for over a year.
On top of it I'm sitting in there waiting for Dan to be done with his appointment and this really weird lady waiting for her turn asks me if someone beat me.

Right after this I have enough time to wash my face and go to my shoot. I lose 20 minutes because Sammy gets busy with work right when I need the key. I wasn't mad at Sammy, things happen. But I looked pretty stupid for 20 minutes while we waited and I could have used that time getting more shots with Jay in his ref uniform.

One day I hope to have a relaxing easy day where I eat three times in one day, don't worry about making rent, and don;t end the day with cat blood under my nails.

Driving lessons are not going well. I can't remember what lane to be in. Things are just... really hard right now. I have a ton of shoots right on top of the other. I need to get back to work.

I still need a tiny table for my kitchen. Sal says he has one. I need to sell a bunch of things.

Assignment: Portrait of a man (one with hands)

Opinions please.

Today my car wouldn't start. Dead battery. Real dead. As in the guy that sold me a new one was almost astounded at the old one I brought it. So I really have not gotten much done today. The longer the day went on the more aggravated Brooks got till finally I pulled into a parking space in Walmart and ordered him to get behind the wheel because I was getting overwhelmed and kept making mistakes. He doesn't understand why I want a professional driving instructor to teach me for a while. Or why I can't read signs. Because I'm just learning how to drive and concentrating so hard on not running into a car in front of me- that's why. He gets angry- I get upset. I make more mistakes.

Today there is a lecture. A photo series by a photographer that documented her mother's breast cancer. I want to go, but I am also behind schedule on moving because of the battery dying and Brooks' didn't get enough sleep last night so he has to take a nap.

Today I need to:

Do math homework
Study for math test I'm pretty much fine with failing this semester and taking it over with a new teacher.

I'm feeling overwhelmed a lot. Learning how to drive, my collage classes trying to bury me alive, my problems in math, and worries about money. Last semester I felt like one of the most talented people in my classes, but now I'm in the middle and it doesn't feel good. I have a To Do List a mile long and written on both sides. Issues with a friend saying stupid things behind my back when we've been getting along so well lately...

Okay I'm done whining. Last night Dan went through the kitchen stuff to figure out what he was going to take and ended up supplying me with more then I need. That relieved some money stress. He's also giving me furniture. It's a big help. I think all I need now is a toaster and a cookie sheet. Also I passed an adorable table set on the way to work that I hope is still there tonight. When I get too tired to move now I am watching Kings with Ian McShane. I love that guy and Kings is amazing. It has the fantastic dialog that Deadwood does.
I am going to a lecture tomorrow night and have a meeting with my landlord to go over the lease as well. Lots of moving too. This is going to upset Lottie so I expect a lot of crying, but I'm trying to get it done fast and I think I'll stick her in the backyard while it's happening so she's not in the way and can't really see what's going on. How do you tell a dog "Don't worry- you're coming too"? I took her for a walk around the neighborhood last night and she loved it. We saw two women walking their dogs too and I hope to befriend them so we can all walk together.

I'm trying to set up shoots with the Derby girls now and need to write two letters (one to a penpal and the other to my Grandma's ex-husband). Then try to finish some math before I leave work. Test on Tuesday.
